Bond set in Sunday shooting

A $50,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of shooting another man Sunday night.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge Darius Martin, 24, with first-degree battery.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said Martin was arrested after he allegedly shot Cedrick Farris after an alleged argument between Farris and his girlfriend, who is Martin’s sister.

Detective Jeremy Oswalt said in a probable cause affidavit that police were sent to the 800 block of West Barraque Street at 8:40 p.m., and when they arrived, found Farris on the ground with a gunshot wound to the left leg.

Kizer said Farris was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center by ambulance and underwent surgery.

In addition to setting the bond, Judge Kearney ordered Martin to have no contact with Farris until the case is settled, and told him to come back to court June 11.

Farris said he would hire his own attorney.
