Bond set in alleged rape

A $100,000 bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly raped a woman during a party on April 19.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge Rodney Washington, 31, with rape.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said the alleged victim told police that Washington asked her to have sex with him at a party in the 1800 block of West 28th Ave., at about 1 a.m., and she told him she was “not interested” and tried to leave.

Detective Larry Gailey said in the probable-cause affidavit that the alleged victim said Washington placed his hand over her mouth and forced her to have sex with him.

In addition to setting the bond, Kearney ordered Washington to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled, and told him to come back to court June 14.

Washington said he would hire his own attorney.
