A $50,000 bond was set Thursday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly raped a woman who was intoxicated and had passed out Wednesday morning.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Sedric Wash, 30, with rape.
Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said police were sent to a residence in the early morning hours and while en route, received information that the victim had passed out and an ambulance had been called.
Detective Sam Atkinson reported that a witness said Wash, the victim and several other people had been at the apartment drinking, playing cards and dominoes and she allowed Wash to spend the night because he was intoxicated.
Kizer said a witness told police she later saw the victim nude from the waist down and Wash allegedly having sex with her and when she yelled at Wash, he got up and left the apartment.
Atkinson reported that Wash was arrested walking in the area nearby and the 30-year-old victim was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where a medical exam was performed.
In addition to setting the bond, Kearney ordered Wash to have no contact with the victim and to come back to court Sept. 13.
The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Wash.
