Bond set in alleged assault

A $25,000 bond was set Thursday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly pointed a gun at a member of his family last week.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge David McCoy, 42, with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Detective Marcia Oliver reported that a member of McCoy’s family told police that McCoy had pulled a rifle on him and threatened to kill him, after accusing him of stealing a handgun.

The police report said McCoy was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Oliver reported that a second member of the family tried to talk to McCoy and the gun discharged, firing a round into the floor of the residence.

Two other people who were in the house at the time confirmed the story, Oliver said.

When McCoy was interviewed, he denied the incident, saying he had not pointed a gun at anyone or fired a shot, according to Oliver.

McCoy, who had no prior convictions of pending charges, was told to come back to court March 28.
