Altercation at Altheimer sends one to hospital, one to jail

A reported disagreement between siblings Tuesday night at Altheimer resulted in the brother being taken to the hospital after a shooting and the sister arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies.

Major Lafayette Woods Jr. said Depreshia Moten, 30, allegedly shot her brother, Willie R. Murry, 27, after a feud that Moten said had turned physical.

The shooting occurred in the 100 block of Olive Street at Altheimer. When deputies arrived, they found that Murry had left the scene. He was located a few blocks away and taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center by ambulance where he was treated for what was described as a “non-life threatening” wound to the right leg.

After questioning, Moten was taken to the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center where she was held on probable cause of first-degree battery, a Class B felony.

Moten is expected to appear in district court for a probable cause hearing Thursday morning where a bond will be set.
