Almyra woman killed in accident near Stuttgart


An Almyra woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Yoder Road south of Stuttgart.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Sherry D. Lovett, 65, was northbound on Yoder Road when a trailer broke away from a vehicle that was towing it, entered the northbound lane, and struck the 2010 Toyota pickup Lovett was driving on the driver’s side.

Lovett was pronounced dead by Arkansas County Deputy Coroner Bill Barnett.

The driver of the vehicle that was pulling the trailer was identified as Christopher P. Vanhouten, 40, of Hazen. According to the report, he was not injured.

Trooper First Class Billy McCradic reported that the trailer broke away from Vanhouten’s 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe when the vehicle went over a dip in the roadway.

The death was the 206th recorded on the state’s highways so far this year.

The weather was clear and the roadway dry when the accident was reported at 1:10 p.m. three miles south of Stuttgart.
