Alleged theft ends in drug arrest

A reported theft in progress Friday at the Walmart Supercenter resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly had drugs in his pocket.

Brandy Crutchfield, 23, had a jar containing what police suspected was marijuana, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing Monday.according to a report by Vice and Narcotics Detective Kenny Evans.

Kizer said Walmart security called police after they reportedly saw Crutchfield concealing items, and when he was taken to the loss prevention office, took compact discs out of his pocket and gave them to store personnel.

Jefferson County District Judge John Kearney set a $10,000 bond for Crutchfield, who Kizer said had no prior convictions or pending charges, after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance.

Kearney appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Crutchfield and told him to come back to court Oct. 29.
