Alleged rape in 2011 results in arrest

An investigation into the reported rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2011 resulted in the arrest of a Pine Bluff man Wednesday.

Jamal Davis, 20, has been accused of raping the girl, who did not tell her mother about it until recently, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing for Davis Friday.

Detective Jerry Lambert reported that the mother found out after the girl said Davis had been “harassing and battering” her.

Kizer said Davis had previously been convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery, but had no prior felony convictions or pending charges.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $100,000 bond for Davis after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with rape.

Bridgforth also ordered Davis to have no contact with the alleged victim and told him to come back to court April 19.

Davis said he would hire his own attorney.
