Alleged inappropriate contact with minor leads to arrest

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Monday after he allegedly made sexually explicit comments and inappropriately touched a minor female.

Gary Roig, 72, had been asked to watch the child while her mother went to apply for a job, Detective James Huff said in a probable cause affidavit that was presented in district court Wednesday.

According to the affidavit, Roig had watched the child in the past but the mother was suspicious and had activated a voice recorder and left it in the residence.

When the mother returned, she listened to the tape, then took the child to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where police were contacted.

Huff said in the affidavit that the child told police Roig had touched her while he was watching her.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said in court that Roig had no prior convictions or pending charges, and because of that and because of Roig’s age, asked Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney to set a $10,000 bond on a charge of sexual indecency with a child.

Kearney agreed and also ordered Roig to have no contact with the child or her mother until the case is settled.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to appoint Roig.
