Accident investigation leads to drug arrest

Pine Bluff police investigating a hit-and-run accident Monday afternoon arrested a man on drug charges after a plastic bag containing an off-white, rock-like substance that field tested positive for cocaine was found on the man.

Juquan Cayton, 23, was taken into custody by officers at East Harding Avenue and Indiana Street after police made a traffic stop related to the hit-and-run accident.

One of the officers reportedly noticed a marijuana smell coming from the vehicle. Cayton reportedly said the odor was K-2, a synthetic marijuana.

After Cayton was arrested for the K-2, a pat-down search resulted in officers finding the bag of cocaine, which Vice and Narcotics Officer Marquis Blake said weighed 1.7 grams.

Blake reported that when Cayton was interviewed, he reportedly said the cocaine was his.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Cayton after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of cocaine.

Cayton was told to come back to court Feb. 6.
