One person was killed and two more injured in a six-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. 278 at Wilmar in Drew County Monday afternoon.
A preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police said Elizabeth Ann Davis, 66, of Warren, was pronounced dead at the scene by Drew County Coroner Larry Scroggins.
According to the report, Davis was westbound when the 2005 Dodge van she was driving was struck by a Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Bryant Childs, 30, also of Warren.
Childs’ vehicle failed to stop for a railroad crossing and the impact pushed Davis’ vehicle into an International tractor-trailer driven by Windell L. Epting, 44, of Cuba, Ala., the report said.
Childs and Epting were injured and taken to Drew Memorial Hospital at Monticello for treatment.
Trooper First Class Bryan Curry reported that the left side of the truck driven by Childs also struck a 2004 Ford truck driven by Brandon Lloyd, 31, of Hamburg, and a 2005 Peterbilt truck driven by Michael Carter, 57, of Crossett.
Epting’s truck also struck a 2007 Chevrolet passenger car driven by Randi Akins, 21, of Monticello, the report indicated.
Lloyd, Carter and Akins were not injured in the accident.
The accident was reported at 12:07 p.m. and the report indicated the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time.
The death was the 445th reported on the state’s highways this year.
