1 dead in Friday-night homicide

One person is dead in a homicide Friday evening on Pine Bluff’s west side in what police are calling a family incident.

The shooting victim was Edward Weston, 54, Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley said. The cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.

Two women were in custody and police were searching for a third suspect at press time, Pine Bluff Police Department spokeswoman Lt. JoAnn Bates said.

Bennetta Green, no age available, was arrested on first-degree capital murder charges. Ruthie Green, no age available, was arrested for burglary in connection with the incident.

One more suspect was at large, but Bates did not have a name or other information to report by press time.

Police responded at 7:21 p.m. to a report of shots being fired in the 1600 block of Bois D’Arc Street. When they arrived on the scene, the found the victim, who had been fatally shot.

Bates did not have details about the family incident that led to the shooting death.

Weston was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:31 p.m. by Chief Deputy Coroner David Westbrook. Kelley said Weston’s body will be sent Saturday to the State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy.

Weston was arrested in January, according to a Commercial article at the time, after he allegedly tried to set fire to a vehicle at 3601 W. 17th Ave. and was held for attempted arson. He was arrested again in February for disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, obstruction of government operations and terroristic threatening.
