State Police to investigate officer-involved shooting in Desha County

State Police are investigating a law enforcement officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning in Desha County where a fleeing suspect was wounded during an exchange of gunfire.

Shortly after 6 a.m. the Desha County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suspicious vehicle and occupant located at the Back Gate community near Arkansas 1 and U.S. 165.

Desha County Sheriff Jim Snyder subsequently encountered the vehicle along Highway 1 and following a short pursuit of the vehicle, as Snyder attempted to take the driver into custody, there was an exchange of gunfire, according to State Police.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, an individual identified as Brandon Langley, age unavailable, of Arkansas City, was wounded and fled into a nearby wooded area where he was later arrested by local law enforcement officers.

He is suspected in the theft of a number of items in the Backgate community.

An investigative file will be prepared by the State Police and presented to 10th Judicial District Prosecutor Thomas Deen for a charging decision.
