Person of interest in Saturday homicide sought

Pine Bluff police have identified a “person of interest” in the shooting death of a man in the Dollarway area early Saturday morning.

Lt. Bob Rawlinson said Chad Brooks, 25, “may or may not have information relevant to the case.”

The victim was identified as Tarance Lamar Franklin, 26, who was killed after he reportedly exchanged gunshots with an intruder at about 1 a.m.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher pronounced Franklin dead at 1:25 a.m. and listed the cause of death as an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

Rawlinson said the initial investigation indicated that Franklin was visiting a female friend at 86 S. Richard when someone kicked the front door of the residence.

Armed with a semi-automatic handgun, Franklin chased the intruder into the front yard, where gunshots were exchanged. Franklin then walked back across the yard where he collapsed near the driveway and was found by police.

Rawlinson said the weapon Franklin used was recovered at the scene.

Anyone with information about Brooks’ whereabouts should contact the Detective Division at 730-2090 and all calls will be kept confidential.
