One person died at the scene and a second died Friday morning as a result of a traffic accident Thursday night at Interstate 530, U.S. 65 and East Harding Avenue.
Sheldon Prater, 18, of Pine Bluff was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Jefferson County Coroner Kim Phillips. Jacques Williams, 19, of Pine Bluff was pronounced dead at 7 a.m. Friday by a doctor at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he had been transported by ambulance after the accident.
The accident occurred just before 10 p.m. and involved a Kia Rio driven by Prater and a tractor-trailer driven by Johnny Wormley, 55, of Conway, according to a press release from Pine Bluff Police Department spokesman Capt. Greg Shapiro.
Wormley was driving south on I-530 at the point where it transitions into U.S. 65 south. Prater was driving southbound on the ramp from East Harding Avenue onto U.S. 65 South. When Prater drove on to U.S. 65 south, he made a left-hand U-turn in front of the tractor trailer driven by Wormley, resulting in the collision, according to the press release.
Williams was a passenger in Prater’s vehicle. Wormley was not injured.
