Bond set in alleged assault

A $25,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly pointed a gun at another person and threatened to kill them Monday afternoon.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Jeremy Betts, 24, with aggravated assault.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said Betts was arrested after police were sent to a reported armed disturbance at 4 p.m. at 8th Avenue and Walnut Street.

Detective Jackie Stevenson reported that witnesses told officers that a man later identified as Betts got out of a vehicle with a gun, pointed it at the victim and threatened to kill her, then got back into the vehicle and left.

Kizer said Betts waived his right to an attorney and denied the accusation.

In addition to setting the bond, Kearney ordered Betts to have no contact with the alleged victim and to come back to court May 29.

Betts said he would hire his own attorney.
