U of A System involved in multi-year fraud investigation at UAPB

The University of Arkansas System is currently involved in what is described as a non-routine audit at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

“An audit is being conducted at UAPB and the U of A System and the campus are addressing issues related to it,” said Ben Beaumont, director of communications for the U of A System. “It is not a routine audit.”

“There were calls to the university fraud hotline in the spring of 2010 and the investigation began shortly thereafter in April of 2010,” Beaumont said. “The focus is on fiscal year 2009 and fiscal year 2010.”

Beaumont said the audit will be completed sometime next week.

The U of A System is the governing body of the various universities, colleges and schools that operate under the University of Arkansas banner.

Beaumont said he could not provide more specific details about the audit or individuals who might be involved.
"We can't comment on personnel matters," he said.
UAPB Chancellor Lawrence A. Davis Jr. has not returned calls for comment.
