For the fifth straight month, reported crime in Pine Bluff dropped in February when compared to a year ago, according to figures released by the police department Monday.
According to the report, there were 355 crimes reported last month, compared to 394 from February 2011, a 9.9 percent decrease.
For the first two months of this year, there have been 92 fewer crimes reported in Pine Bluff compared to the first two months of 2011, or a 10.66 decline.
One of the biggest drops last month compared to 2011 was in the number of reported burglaries in the city.
In 2011, there were 81 burglaries reported, while last month, police responded to 61 reported burglaries.
“The Crime Suppression Unit is obviously making a difference,” Lt. Bob Rawlinson said “Ever since they’ve been out there, our numbers have gone down.”
Reported thefts also decreased to 132 last month, compared to 143 in 2011, while reported motor vehicle thefts stayed the same for both February 2011 and last month at 13 each.
In terms of crimes against persons, there were 28 aggravated assaults reported last month, one less than in February 2011, while there was one more rape or reported rape (three) last month than was reported in 2011.
While there were two homicides reported in January of this year, there were none in February. In 2011, one homicide was reported in the first two months of the year.
Reported robberies last month increased from five t0 nine compared to 2011, while simple assaults decreased from 121 in 2011 to 109 last month.
