Police investigate suspicious death Friday

Pine Bluff police are investigating the “suspicious death” of a 21-year-old man found in a house on the west side of the city Friday morning.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Roger Bohannon Jr., who was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher.

Lt. Bob Rawlinson said police were sent to 3105 Jonquil St. just before 7:30 a.m. to investigate what was initially reported as a suicide.

“Due to the preliminary nature of the investigation, we haven’t been able to confirm at this point that it was a suicide and we’re classifying it as a suspicious death,” Rawlinson said.

He said the body was found in a bathroom of the house after individuals there heard gunshots and tried to get in but couldn’t.

“That’s when they called 9-1-1,” Rawlinson said.

A semi-automatic handgun was recovered in the house, Rawlinson said. It will be sent to the State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock as part of the investigation. Kelley said the body was sent to the State Crime Laboratory to determine the cause and manner of death.

No arrests have been made in the incident, and Rawlinson said there are no suspects at this time.

Rawlinson said anyone with information should contact the Detective Division at 730-2090. Information can also be submitted through the PBPD website at www.pbpd.org or through the department’s Facebook page. To text a tip, text PBPD plus the message to 274637.

All information will be kept confidential and a reward is available for information that leads to an arrest.
