A Pine Bluff man died early Friday morning as a result of a fire on the east side of the city.
The victim was identified as Charles Shavers Jr., 20, by Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department spokesman Lt. Harold Clark. Shavers’ body was found inside a mobile home in the Greenfield Trailer Park at 1719 S. Ohio St. after fire department personnel responded to the reported blaze at 12:42 a.m.
“When we arrived, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames,” Clark said. “We didn’t know initially that there was anyone inside but when we learned that, we started an aggressive search of the trailer.”
Clark said the body was found on the floor of a bedroom of the mobile home, which was a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No other details were immediately available.
The death was the second fire-related fatality of the year in Pine Bluff. Robert Arnold, 55, was killed Feb. 19 in a fire at an apartment complex in the Dollarway area. Firefighters were sent to 1401 Cottonwood, Building 27, Apartment C at 7:32 p.m. Feb. 19. Clark later said the fire was determined to have been caused by a cigarette being smoked in bed. Arnold was from New Orleans and had been in Pine Bluff since being evacuated following Hurricane Katrina.
