Jefferson Regional Medical Center will begin offering a free monthly diabetes education class on April 17, followed by a monthly support group starting on May 2.
The class will be held on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in JRMC’s South Classrooms 2 and 3, located on the first floor of the hospital. Each session will last about an hour and will focus on providing medically sound diabetes education including information about testing, blood sugar levels, behavior modification techniques and lifestyle management.
The support group, which begins May 2, will be held once a month at 9 a.m., also in classrooms 2 and 3. Those attending will receive hands-on information about choosing and preparing healthy foods, as well as sharing information with others who are living with diabetes. Family members and caregivers are also invited to attend.
Both the class and support group will be led by registered dietician Amy Morris, RD, LD and diabetes educator Rebekah Crowder, MS, RD, LD, CDE. Evening classes and support group meetings will be added in the future.
There is no charge for attending but space is limited, so preregistration is required. Call JRMC at 870-541-7294 and leave your name and telephone number.
