The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River because rains have pushed flows above safe levels for small craft.
Advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Currents become swifter and stronger, and large debris is carried downstream.
The advisory is issued for the river starting from Ormond Lock and Dam at Morrilton downstream.
Flows Tuesday at Morrilton were about 78,000 c.f.s.
Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock were about 103,000 c.f.s. and flows at Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff were about 89,000 c.f.s.
All pleasure boaters are urged to stay off the river until flows recede to safe levels. Daily river information can be obtained on the Internet at www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil or visit www.facebook.com/littlerockusace.
