Citizens’ Fire Academy accepting applications


Pine Bluff Fire & Emergency Services is accepting applications for its second annual Citizens’ Fire Academy.

The eight-week program will allow participants to learn more about the job of being a firefighter through hands-on participation, live demonstrations and classroom instruction.

Topics will include the department’s organizational structure, hiring and training process, apparatus familiarization, hazardous materials team and fire tactics and strategies. Participants will also receive CPR certification training and an overview of the department’s Fire Prevention and Community Outreach operations.

The last week of the program will include a graduation ceremony and presentation of certificates and awards.

Participants must be 20 or older. The group will meet once a week at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the Pine Bluff Fire Training Academy at 3216 W. Seventh Ave. Classes begin Tuesday, April 17.

Applications will be accepted through Monday, April 2. Criminal background checks will be conducted on all applicants. The class size is limited to 20 participants. Those selected must bring a completed waiver of liability and release form upon attending the first evening of instruction.

The program is part of the department’s commitment of “Focusing on the Community” and its goal is to increase fire and life safety awareness.
