According to the bus driver, another vehicle stopped behind the bus to pick up a child who was being dropped off, then an EASI ambulance, with a patient onboard, apparently collided with the other vehicle and caused it to hit the back of the school bus. The school bus was released and able to leave the accident to continue on its route to finish dropping off the children still on board. Special to The Commercial/Mike Adam</p>Buy Photo

A woman sustained non life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle accident involving an ambulance and a Pine Bluff School bus shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. 65 South and Green Meadows Drive, Lt. JoAnn Bates of the Pine Bluff Police Department reported.

Bates said the bus was stopped and some children were getting off as the accident occurred. The woman, who was not identified, was driving an SUV and had stopped behind the bus.

Meanwhile, an ambulance, whose driver was also unidentified, was driving behind the SUV and failed to brake. The ambulance struck the SUV and caused it to collide with the bus.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Jefferson Regional Medical Center. No one else was injured. Bates said the SUV had to be removed from the scene by a wrecker.
