Winter weather keeps road crews busy


Inclement weather kept Jefferson County Road Department crews busy during part of last week, according to a report from County Judge Dutch King.

The report said two teams were out on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and Wednesday, Jan. 16, the first from 7 p.m. to midnight, Tuesday, the second from midnight to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The first team put sand on bridges on Middle Warren Road, Port Road, Harmony Church Road, Pinebergen Road, Shannon Petty Road, Lee Springs Road, Providence Road, Camden Cutoff Road and the Industrial Park Road. Sand was also put on the approaches, curves and roads that were iced over and slick with the build-up of ice on Paper Mill Road, Interstate 530 and the Hazel Street Extension, Atkins Lake Road, and on the levy on Island Harbor Road and the intersection at Grider Field Road.

The second team put sand on bridges on Middle Warren Road, Earl Chadick Road, Camden Cutoff Road, Lee Springs Road, Providence Road, Princeton Pike, Sorrells Road, Stagecoach Road, Jefferson Parkway and Pinebergen. Also sand was put on Old Warren Road, Middle Warren Road, Spring Lake Road, Camden Cutoff Road, Lee Springs Road, Sorrells Road, Stagecoach Road, NCTR Road, River Road, McFadden Road and Shannon Petty Road. Sand also had to be put on the hill going to the landfill on Gravel Pit Road.

On Wednesday, Jan. 16, team one put sand on the bridges at Ryburn Road, Sorrells Road, Whiteville Road, Brown Cemetery Road, Lincoln County Line Road, Rosswood Country Club Road, Port Road and the Jefferson Industrial Parkway bridge. Sand was also put on Brown Cemetery Road and Jefferson Industrial Parkway Road.

Team two put sand on the bridges on Altheimer East Road, Mulberry Road, Claud Road, Hardin Reed Road, Princeton Pike, Jefferson Parkway, Providence Road and Stagecoach Road. They also put sand on roads at Wabbaseka South, Evans Road, Summer Road, NCTR Road, McFadden Road, Stagecoach Road, Highway 104 from Highway 270 to Interstate 530.

Sand was also put on the parking lot of the courthouse, and on bridges on Altheimer East Road, Longbell Road, Mulberry Road, State Farm Road, N. McKinney Road, S. McKinney Road, Jim Ford Road and Gilland Road.
