Weekly Jefferson County Road Department report


The Jefferson County Road Department was busy with a number of projects last week, according to the weekly report from County Judge Dutch King.

Activities last week were as follows:

Jan. 28

• Bridge Crew: Worked on the bridge reports.

• Patched Crew: Patched potholes in the Reydell area.

• Culvert Crews: checking culverts/ one calls and loading trucks to haul to different areas.

• Gravel Hauled To: The levee at Reydell and Richard Alan Road.

• Graded: Fugate Road, the levee at Reydell Road, Wright area, Highway 270 area, Hudson Road and Huntley Trail.

• Ditched: Sullivan Road.

• Mowed Ditches: Old Star City Road, Wampler Spur Road and the Altheimer Sewer Pond.

• Environmental Officer: Inspected area in Jefferson and Redfield for illegal dumping.

Jan. 29

• Bridge Crew: Worked on bridge reports.

• Patching Crew: Patched potholes on Wilbur West Road and in the area.

• Culvert Crew: Cut trees down on Sorrells Road and in the area.

Equipment Crew: Went to the Altheimer area to check on ditches, worked on the back lot/stockpile.

• Gravel Hauled: From Little Rock to the Road Department.

Graded: Highway 65 south area, levee at Reydell, Wright area, Highway 270 area, Hudson Road, Huntley Trail, Jed Road and Lawrence Road.

• Ditching Crew: Went to Little Rock to check out equipment.

Boom Mower Crew: Altheimer Area and Belmont Road.

• Environmental Officer: Checked for illegal dumping in the Sulphur Springs area.

Four teams of two plus the Road Directors were called out during the severe storm that hit the area to get trees off the road and clean out culverts to prevent flooding. They were available to help during the storm from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Jan. 30

• Bridge Crew: Checked bridges in the Humphrey area and checked on calls.

• Patching Crew: Cleaned out culverts to prevent flooding.

• Culvert Crew: Picked up tree limbs that were broken off during the storm.

• Equipment Operators: Checked the ditches in the Altheimer area and worked on the back lot/stock pile.

Gravel Hauled: From Little Rock to the Road Department.

• Grader Crews: Cleaned out culverts, graded Wright area/moved equipment to Swan Lake.

• Ditching Crew: Ditched on Sullivan Road.

• Boom Mower Crew: Mowed ditches on Mitchell Road, Townsend Road, Chandler Road and Bruce Trail.

• Environmental Officer: Checked on illegal dumping in the Sulphur Springs area.

Jan. 31

Bridge Crew: Worked on bridge reports.

• Patching Crew: Patched on Wilbur West Road and Sorrells Road.

• Culvert Crew: Installed culverts on W. Baldwin Road.

• Equipment Operators: Had to bury a horse on Huntley Trail. They also worked on the back lot/stock pile.

• Gravel Hauled: From Little Rock to the Road Department.

• Graded: Jefferson-Lincoln County Road, Swan Lake Recreational Road, the Wright area and Bruce Trail.

• Ditched: Sullivan Road.

• Boom Mower Crew: Mowed Horseshoe Lake Road, McKinney Road, Townsend Road and Bruce Trail.

• Environmental Officer: Checked for illegal dumping on German Springs Road and Bruce Trail.

Feb. 1

• Bridge Crew: Inspected the bridge on Crooked Creek.

• Patching Crew: Patched potholes on Wilbur West, Sandy Bayou, St. Raphael and Pleasant Drive.

• Culvert Crew: Installed culverts on Hardin Road North.

• Equipment Operators: Went to the Altheimer/Wabbaseka area and also worked on the back lot/stock pile.

• Gravel Hauled: From Little Rock to the Road Department. Also to Crooked Creek and Harlan Road.

• Grader Operators: Graded Gibb Anderson Road, Swan Lake area, Wright area, German Springs Road, Castro, Alford, Sassifras Road and Appian Way.

• Ditching Crew: Cleaned out the ditches on Harlan and Crooked Creek Roads.

• Boom Mower Crew: Mowed ditches on Earl Chadick Road, Abernathy Haynes Road, Bruce Trail.

• Environmental Officer: Checked for illegal dumping in the Moscow area, Ladd area and White Hall area.

• Sign Shop: Installed road signs in the Redfield and Jefferson area, on Old Dollarway Road, Hudson Road, Elizabeth Ann Road, Faye Harris Drive, NCTR Road, Morrison Road, Billingsley Road, Keb Road, Joanett Road, Rainey Lane, Kristen Road, Brittany Road, Bartlett Road, Arrowhead Road, Kimmel Road, Shingle Mill Road, Jessica Road, Beaver Lake Trail, Stagecoach and Justin Lake, German Springs and Gravel Pit Road, and put a new mailbox up on Lark, replacing a damaged mailbox.

• The Jefferson County Road Department has a mechanic shop that does various mechanical jobs on the county’s heavy equipment, as well as cars and trucks that belong to Jefferson County.

During the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, jobs that were completed were:

Installed a stump jumper on a Tiger Boom Mower, went to the landfill to to work on the recycling hook truck, worked on the pot hole patcher that was broken down on Wilbur West Road, went to Wright to work on the road grader that was broken down, replaced slides on the road grader 12G Caterpillar road grader, installed hydraulic pump on the pot hole patcher, went to Little Rock and repaired the air line on the dump truck, services track hoe, and installed blades on the grader that was working on Bruce Trail.
