A Little Rock man accused of rape and other offenses following an incident in the western section of Pine Bluff Tuesday surrendered to police Wednesday.
Anthony James Welspom, 53, turned himself in at noon and was taken to the adult detention center pending an expected court appearance Thursday morning, Pine Bluff Police Capt. Greg Shapiro said.
Welspom was being sought on probable cause of rape, aggravated assault, kidnapping and residential burglary.
Shapiro said Welspom was an acquaintance of the victim and came to her house. After she let him in, he requested sex and when she denied the request, he allegedly threatened her with a gun and raped her.
Welspom also allegedly threatened to kill her with the gun and after she ran from the house, he fled in a car.
Shapiro said the woman was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
