UA Board of Trustees to hold vote on UAPB chancellor

The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees will hold a meeting via conference call Thursday at 4:30 p.m. to consider the appointment of Laurence B. Alexander as the next chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

UA System President Donald R. Bobbitt will nominate Alexander as chancellor, and the nomination will be put to a vote by the board.

The UA System announced Monday that Alexander would be nominated to succeed former chancellor Lawrence A. Davis Jr., who retired May 25, 2012.

If Alexander’s appointment is approved, Interim chancellor Calvin Johnson, who has been serving in that capacity since April 2012, will step down when Alexander takes the reins July 1.

Alexander is currently the associate dean of the graduate school and director of the Office of Minority Programs at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
