Two die in accident on U.S. 270

Two people were killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 270 west of Arkansas Highway 104 in Jefferson County.

Marsha Lynn Reed, 55, of Malvern, and Edward Ingram Beets, 59, of Columbia, Miss., both were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:34 p.m. by Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner David Westbrook.

According to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police Trooper Philip R. Felton, Reed was westbound on U.S. 270 when her 2009 GMC Acadia crossed the center line and collided with Beets’ 2006 GMC Yukon.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:56 p.m., according to the ASP report. The weather was clear and the road dry at the time of the accident.

The two deaths bring the total number of traffic fatalities on Arkansas roadways to 515 this year.
