Statewide home sales up 10 percent; Jefferson County sales down slightly

Home sales in Jefferson County did not keep pace with the 10 percent rise in statewide sales reported by the Arkansas Realtors Association.

The ARA reported that statewide home sales rose from 2,286 in May 2012 to 2,515 in May 2013. Similarly, year-to-date figures were also up 9.7 percent.

In Jefferson County, sales were down slightly. Thirty-two homes were sold in May, compared to 37 in May 2012, according to the ARA report.

For the year to date, sales were up. The report indicated 142 homes have been sold in Jefferson County, compared to 137 through by the same month in 2012.

The total value of the homes sold was up 2 percent for the month compared year over year, increasing from $3.01 million to $3.08 million. Year-to-date home sale values were up 14.5 percent, according to the report, increasing from $11.8 million in 2012 to $13.5 million in 2013. The statewide total was $407 million in May 2013.

The average price of the homes sold in Jefferson County was $96,317 in May 2013, up compared to $81,553 in May 2012. Year-to-date average prices were up from $86,211 in 2012 to $95,248 in 2013. The statewide average was $161,862 in May 2013.

Grant County saw 12 home sales in May, compared to four in May 2012. Grant County has had 48 home sales so far this year, while 33 were sold over the same time span in 2012.

The ARA does not report statistics on other Southeast Arkansas counties.
