Sheriff’s Mother’s Day operation targets child support offenders

Day one of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s Operation Mother’s Day resulted in 11 arrests Wednesday for nonpayment of child support totaling $135,654.

This is the seventh year for the two-day operation, which began before sunrise Wednesday, according to a press release from JCSO spokesman Major Lafayette Woords Jr. It also resulted in two arrests for misdemeanor warrants totalling $2,730.

The operation continues Thursday. Woods said those who are who are currently noncompliant on court-ordered child support with the Office of Child Support Enforcement are strongly urged to become compliant prior to Sunday. Those individuals who remain noncompliant through Thursday can surrender themselves to the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center or risk being arrested during this operation.
