A public auction hosted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies netted $165,291 on Saturday, with $36,150 of the total going directly into the JCSO operating budget.
The auction was bigger than ever, according to JCSO Major Lafayette Woods Jr., with proceeds surpassing a similar auction in 2011 when $101,999 was raised with $30,803 going to the JCSO. More than 100 registered bidders from far and near participated.
Bidding opened up at 9 a.m. and more than 100 bids were placed on property ranging from seized vehicles and used fleet vehicles and heavy equipment to furniture and audio equipment.
Partnering with the Sheriff’s Office for the auction were Tracy Robinson Auctioneers, the Jefferson County Road Department, Jefferson County Recycling, Jefferson County Building and Grounds, Tri-County Drug Task Force and Pine Bluff Vice & Narcotics Division. The event was held at the Road Department, 3304 W. 7th Ave.
