Reward offered in Saturday shooting death

Pine Bluff police are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible for the shooting death of Sidney Farver Jr., 21, on Saturday night.

Lt. JoAnn Bates said officers were sent to the area of 18th Avenue and Elm Street in response to a report of shots fired in the area, and a short time later, Farver drove himself to Church’s Chicken at 16th Avenue and Cherry Street, where an ambulance and police were called.

Farver was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor in the Emergency Room at 8:30 p.m. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley said the body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office at Little Rock for an autopsy Sunday.

The slaying was the fourth of the year in Jefferson County and the second inside the Pine Bluff city limits. It was also the third homicide in the county in seven days.

Because Mendi*** Bell was pregnant at the time she died in an apparent homicide on Jan. 19, prosecutors will be asked to file a second charge of capital murder against Bell’s husband, George Cage.

Anyone with information about the Farver shooting should contact the Police Detective Division at 730-2090 or call 9-1-1.

Information may also be submitted to the department website at www.pbpd.org or their Facebook page.
