Police investigate Friday homicide

A 24-year-old Pine Bluff man was shot to death Friday night and police are asking for help in identifying the person or persons responsible.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Bendrell M. Urquhart, who was pronounced dead at 11:38 p.m. by Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher.

The cause of death was listed as apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body. Kelley said the body would be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office at Little Rock Saturday for an autopsy.

Police Lt. Denise Richardson said the shooting was reported at approximately 10:52 p.m. at 4410 W. Hepburn St., and when officers and paramedics arrived, they found Urquhart had been shot.

The slaying was the seventh of the year in Jefferson County and the fourth inside the Pine Bluff city limits.

it was the first homicide in Pine Bluff since March 17, when William Roby Jr., 21, was found with gunshot wounds in the yard of a duplex at 3009 S. Ash St., and taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead either during or after surgery.

Curtis Ladd Jr., 16, who listed an address in North Little Rock, was arrested in connection with that shooting and will be charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

Richardson said police have not identified a suspect in the Urquhart’s death and anyone with information should contact the Detective Division at 730-2090.

All calls will be kept confidential and a reward may be available for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect or suspects.
