Pine Bluff Police Lt. JoAnn Bates died Tuesday night at her home in Redfield, according to Interim Police Chief Jeff Hubanks.
Hubanks announced the death in a memo that was released Wednesday morning, saying the “situation is currently under investigation” by Redfield police.
“The coming days will be difficult as we make preparations to say goodbye both personally and professionally,” Hubanks said in the memorandum. “A loss such as this brings with it far more questions than answers and individually we become stunned and inarticulate.
“However, within our group we can find some measure of solace and it is as a group — a department — that we will best navigate these troubled waters,” Hubanks said. “Let this be a time to come together. There is no more fitting memorial to the life and service of our dearly departed than that we become a better and more cohesive group.”
Bates was in charge of the department’s Office of Professional Standards and also served as a public information officer.
