Students and faculty honored the Pine Bluff High School Zebras Football team on Friday afternoon as the team prepared to face the Greenwood Bulldogs Saturday.
The school held a tailgate party and pep rally at the end of the school day to celebrate the football team going to the finals in the state championship.
“This is our year,” said Pine Bluff Cheerleader Saige Davis as refreshments were served during the event.
The food was donated by different entities such as the 560 hot dogs from Jefferson County Judge-elect Dutch King.
It was smiles and anxious hope in the faces of students who wished their team well.
“We have been watching YouTube videos and it’s going to be a fight,” said Dedrick Parker.
The Zebras will face off with Greenwood High School at noon Saturday in Little Rock at War Memorial Stadium.
Parker and many other students and staff planned on attending.
The Pine Bluff High School Student Council presented the 2012 Zebra Football team with a 6A- 7A South Conference Championship Cake recently. The student body planned events all week, a spokesman said.
