No charges to be filed in infant’s death

A woman arrested June 10 in the death of her infant son will not be charged, Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said Thursday.

Hunter said the State Medical Examiner ruled that the death of 4-month-old Timothy McKnight was accidental.

McKnight’s mother, Latasha Cannon, 22, was arrested after being interviewed by police, who responded to 6009 S. Cedar St., at about 8 a.m. June 10 in response to a report of an unresponsive infant.

The infant was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:50 a.m. by a doctor in the emergency room.

Cannon was arrested after police said she gave conflicting statements.

During a probable cause hearing for Cannon on June 12, she said “I would never do anything to hurt my baby. I loved my baby.”
