Liberty Utilities finalizes purchase of United Water

As of Feb. 1, Liberty Utilities finalized its purchase of the Pine Bluff regulated water utility from United Water in a $28.6 million deal first announced July 20, 2012.

The new owners, who serve approximately 55,000 residential and business customers, said all current employees will be retained.

“We will continue to provide first in class customer service and the high quality water that residents have become accustomed to,” said Lester Melton, general manager of Liberty Utilities in Pine Bluff.

David Pasieka, president of Liberty Utilities, said that the transition has been smooth.

“Liberty Utilities is a large, established utility operator and will ensure there is a smooth transition for Pine Bluff water customers,” Pasieka said. “Liberty Utilities is very pleased to be doing business in Arkansas. Our seasoned management and staff, located here in Pine Bluff, are focused on the continued delivery of safe, reliable drinking water to the local residents.”

The sale received the final state and federal regulatory approvals needed to complete the transaction in December 2012.

“We have been serving the residents and businesses of the Pine Bluff community for nearly 20 years and we appreciate the trust our customers had in our ability to provide them with clean, safe and reliable drinking water,” Bertrand Camus, chief executive officer of United Water, said in a July 2012 press release. “We’re very confident that our customers will be in good hands when this transaction closes as Liberty Utilities Co. is an outstanding company that will serve Pine Bluff well.”
