Investigation into homicide continuing

Pine Bluff Police Capt. Greg Shapiro said Thursday several tips have been received following the shooting death of a store clerk at the Big Red Food Mart at 2401 E. 6th Ave. Tuesday night.

Mohammad Islam, 26, was pronounced at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body at 9:25 p.m. after police found him following a call about a possible shooting.

Shapiro said detectives are following up on all the leads they have received and are also talking with police in North Little Rock where a clerk at a convenience store there was shot and killed during a robbery Saturday night.

The same suspects were believed to have robbed a convenience store at Jacksonville the next day.

Police are treating the incident here as an aggravated robbery, theft of property and capital murder, and so far, no suspects have been identified or arrested in the death of Islam.

Islam’s death was the 16th homicide of the year in Jefferson County and the 15th inside the Pine Bluff city limits.

Shapiro said a $1,000 reward is available for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible.
