Hollingsworth currently positioned to win mayor’s race outright

With about 60 percent of the votes counted, Hollingsworth is currently poised to win the Pine Bluff mayor election outright.

With early votes, absentee votes and 34 out of 112 precincts reporting, the unofficial and incomplete vote totals were:

Debe Hollingsworth - 45.72%

Carl A. Redus Jr. - 19.52%

Thelma Walker - 10.25%

Steven Mays - 7.72%

Clarence E. Davis - 6.39%

Peter F. Daniels - 3.60%

Kent Broughton - 3.50%

John James Jr. - 2.73%

Tim Whisenhunt - 0.56%

The totals come from the Arkansas Secretary of State’s website.

Arkansas election law has changed this election cycle. Whereas in the past a candidate had to get 50 percent of the vote plus on vote in order to avoid a runoff, they now only have to get 40 percent of the vote as long as they are 20 percent ahead of the second-place candidate.
