Fugitive wanted for manslaughter arrested without incident

A fugitive who fled from police Tuesday was taken into custody Wednesday without further incident.

Edward Morris, 28, was wanted on a warrant from Hamburg in Ashley County for manslaughter, Sheriff’s Department Major Lafayette Woods Jr. said.

Morris was taken into custody about noon near St. John Apartments in the 1100 block of East 26th Avenue, Woods said. The arrest was a joint effort of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Pine Bluff Police Department.

At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Morris was reporting to the Department of Community Corrections Probation and Parole office in the Jefferson Square Shopping Center when authorities ran his information, discovered the active warrant and attempted to arrest him. Morris fled from there on foot.

Morris had already been transported out of the adult detention center in Jefferson County to another agency Wednesday evening, Woods said.
