Fire at DHS contained quickly

No one was injured after a fire Wednesday morning at the Department of Human Services building on West Sixth Avenue.

Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department Lt. Harold Clark said workers were removing old air conditioners on top of the roof of the building and using cutting torches to remove the brackets when some of the debris fell, setting insulation on the roof on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly and the building was evacuated because it was filled with smoke, Clark said.

No damage estimate was immediately available.
