EMS calls dominate fire department activity

For the fifth consecutive month, emergency services calls dominated the activity of the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department, according to their monthly report.

The report, prepared by Capt. Harold Clark, indicated that the department answered 193 EMS calls, 56.4 percent of the total calls for the month. The April call figure is 29 less that for the month of March.

There were 10 structure fires in April, four in Ward 1, three in Ward 2, one in Ward 3 and two in Ward 4, and those 10 equaled the number of structure fires in March.

Department personnel also responded to five vehicle fires and eight brush/grass/rubbish fires and answered 33 alarm calls, 10 of them false.

The monthly report also showed fire and emergency services personnel were called to 19 auto accidents with injuries, one more than in March.

Department personnel conducted 93 inspections in April, 778 of those at companies and businesses, and installed 24 smoke alarms.

So far this year, 104 smoke alarms have been installed by the department, they have conducted 16 home surveys, and issued 78 burn permits.
