Election day for school board races slated Tuesday

School board seats in the Pine Bluff and the Watson Chapel school districts are up for re-election today and voters in the affected zones have from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. to make their voices heard.

There are no contested seats in the White Hall School District, where all candidates are running unopposed. The Dollarway School District no longer has a school board after being taken over by the state in early June.

Early voting

Early voting at the Jefferson County Courthouse ended Monday with nearly 500 people voting.

Jefferson County Senior Deputy Clerk Katherine Wooldridge reported strong early voting numbers as of 4:15 p.m. Monday.

“We’ve had 123 so far today,” Wooldridge said. “That’s the most we’ve had in one day. As of right now we’ve had 449 people take part in early voting. I’d estimate we’ll probably get around 30 more before 5:00.”

Wooldridge was happy with the voter turnout during the early voting period.

“All things considered, it’s going good,” Wooldridge said. “I’m pleased with it.”

Wooldridge said that due to all of the candidates for White Hall School District seats running unopposed voting for those positions was only available during the early voting period.

“There won’t be any polls open in White Hall on election day,” Wooldridge said.
