Domestic disturbance call yields drug arrest

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a domestic disturbance call shortly after 1 a.m. Friday at a residence in the 6800 block of Maynard Drive arrested a man for possession of a controlled substance.

Investigator Danny Fletcher with the Tri-County Drug Task Force said in a probable-cause affidavit that the grandmother of Mitchell James Williams, 32, told officers that her grandson had been drinking and throwing objects, causing her to become very scared.

Fletcher said deputies made contact with Williams and placed him under arrest after allegedly finding him to be in possession of several pills identified as clonazapan and carisoprodol.

On Monday Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for Williams after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance clonazapan and possession of a controlled substance carisoprodol.

Williams asked for time to hire his own attorney and was told to return to court Aug. 22.
