Deputy fire chief to be sworn in at ceremony

Deputy Fire Chief Ernest Jones will be officially sworn in at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday by District Court Judge John Kearney at the fire department’s training academy, 3216 W. 7th Ave.

The public is invited.

Jones is a 19-year veteran of the department who served as emergency management coordinator before his appointment. Jones has a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Administration and Management from Arkansas Tech University and an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science from Southeast Arkansas College.

Recently, he completed his second year of the four-year Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy. Deputy Chief Jones is also a certified emergency manager, a certified fire and explosion investigator and a nationally registered emergency medical technician.

Jones served in the United States Army and the Arkansas National Guard. During his enlistment, he served with meritorious service during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

He is the son of Leroy and Cleo Jones and is married to Angela Wilkins Jones. They have three children: Justin, Aidan and Aila.
