The Jefferson County Election Commission certified the results of the Tuesday runoff election for city treasurer and Ward 1 alderman at a meeting Thursday evening at its Main Street headquarters.
In the race for city treasurer, Greg Gustek defeated Janice L. Roberts. The race for Ward 1 alderman was won by Lloyd A. Holcomb Jr. over Alfred Carroll.
Election Coordinator Will Fox said the vote taken by the commission Thursday made the results official and that a followup Dec. 3 commission meeting will be dedicated to signing the vote certification paperwork that will be sent to the Secretary of State’s Office in Little Rock.
The commission reviewed five provisional ballots cast during the runoff vote.
“All five votes were from people who were marked as absentee but did not vote absentee so these provisional ballots are their votes,” Fox told the commission.
Commission Secretary Stu Soffer said he was pleased with the efficiency of the provisional ballot process.
“The good news is that the provisional ballots were done correctly in both the general and the runoff elections,” Soffer said. “This shows that training pays off.”
Altogether, 13 provisional votes were added to the final tally for the runoff election, with eight overseas military provisional ballots included in the total.
Commission Chairman Trey Ashcraft and Commissioner Shara Williams were also present at the meeting.
