Preliminary work on the city’s 2013 budget initiated after Tuesday’s general elections as Mayor Carl A. Redus Jr. met with four city council committees, Finance Director Steve Miller and several department directors and/or representatives.
On Wednesday, Redus held meetings with Miller and the ways and means and administration committees, which include Alderwoman Irene Holcomb and Aldermen Bill Brumett and Wayne Easterly. Among the departments and services making presentations were the police and fire departments, Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association (MECA), district court and drug court, animal control, Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum, maintenance, human resources, information technology, collector, attorney and clerk.
On Friday, Redus met with the public health committee, consisting of Aldermen Glen Brown, Steven Mays and George Stepps, and traffic and aviation committee, consisting of Aldermen Charles Boyd, Brown and Mays. Departments and services making presentations were the Area Agency on Aging, state health, cemetery, sanitation, transit, summer work program and airport.
Additional meetings are planned.
