The Pine Bluff Police Department Police and Youth Day Camp wrapped up its 2013 session Friday morning with closing ceremonies at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
Friday’s event marked the end of the six-week PAY camp that began June 3 at Bel-Air Middle School. Two hundred and seventy-five children attended the camp, which included a variety of activities and was held weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Lt. Shirley Williams has been the coordinator and organizer since the camp was established in 2011.
She explained that each day the campers participated in academic activities, basketball, and ways to prevent bullying. The Pine Bluff School District provided transportation for field trips that included trips to the Discovery Museum, Willow Springs, the premiere of Monsters University and Bar J Ranch in El Dorado. The camp also featured speakers from the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department and a demonstration from the Pine Bluff Police Department SWAT team.
The campers were divided into eight teams that performed dancing, singing and stepping routines at Friday’s closing ceremony. The teams were the Dangerous Ducks, the Tigers, the Pretty Penguins, the Cheetah Girls, the Little Mustangs, the Leopards, the Lions and the Jazzy Jaguars.
The PAY. Camp choir, which comprised the entire group of campers, performed a few songs before awards were given to close the ceremonies.
