New Faith hosts neighborhood fun day

New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Fir St., recently yielded its grounds for its first neighborhood fun day.

Approximately 125 people participated. Children’s events included fun jump bouncers, water balloon wars, volleyball and basketball.

Sponge Bob, Winnie the Pooh, Dora the Explorer and Mickey & Minnie characters stopped by to pose for pictures with the children.

Several local agencies also participated. The goal was to introduce residents to community service providers with the hope of influencing career choices, reducing anxiety and increasing safety awareness.

The Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department brought a fire truck and fire safety house where firefighters promoted ‘Learn Not To Burn’ with the children.

The Pine Bluff Police Department gave rides in a squad car using blaring sirens and flashing lights.

Emergency Ambulance Service Inc. provided an ambulance along with an emergency medical technician who welcomed visitors to explore the unit and ask questions.

An opportunity to dunk the pastor, Rev. S.E. Shaw, had long lines of challengers.

Neighborhood Fun day was the vision of the pastor and the New Faith congregation who seek to make a positive impact on this community, specifically the children.

Fun Day was followed by youth day worship services.

Other supporters of fun day included USA Drug Stores, Brookshire’s, Walmart, Hardee’s, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Fun Jump Inflatables, Tiffany’s Event and Party Planning and Bailey Tent Service.
